Day 1

Arrival

Olare Lamun

Upon arrival at camp, nestled at the southern edge of the Loita Plains at Olare Lamun (the rhino salt lick), amidst a grove of acacia trees by a small stream, you’ll be greeted with lunch. Take some time to settle in and unwind before meeting your horses for an introductory evening ride. Return to camp for a delightful dinner, where you’ll have the chance to get acquainted with your fellow riders and guide.

Day 2

Olare Lamun

Begin your day with an early morning wake-up call, setting off on a ride where your guide will track the wildlife, possibly spotting herds of zebra or wildebeest. After a light breakfast back at camp, embark on a guided game drive to Oloiburmut, a nearby hill offering panoramic views. Return to camp for brunch/lunch, followed by either a siesta or an afternoon immersed in the African surroundings. In the late afternoon, explore a local Masai Village before returning to camp for dinner. Wind down the evening by the campfire, soaking in the tranquil sounds of the African bush and marveling at the impressive starlit sky.

Day 3

Olare Orok

Embark on a long day in the saddle, covering nearly 50km to reach the next camp on the edge of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Ride across rolling open plains, encountering an abundance of game as you approach the Mara ecosystem. Witness herds of zebras, topi, giraffes, wildebeest, and the possibility of elephants and buffalo. Enjoy a picnic breakfast and lunch along the way. In the late afternoon, arrive at the Olare Orok lugga camp, where the sounds of lions and hyenas echo through the night, emphasizing the abundance of game in the area.

Day 4

Olare Orok

Experience another full day of riding, with one ride in the morning and another in the afternoon, both departing from the Olare Orok camp. You also have the option to drive into the game park for optimal photographic opportunities, getting closer to lion, elephant, and buffalo from the game viewer than from horseback.

Day 5

Escarpment

Embark on another adventurous day, riding west across the Mara plains until you reach the Mara River on the park boundary. Cross the river (unless in complete flood) at a famous wildebeest crossing and head southwest across the Mara Triangle. Enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch before ascending the Soit Olololol Escarpment to reach the next camp in a forest glade overlooking the entire Mara ecosystem.

Day 6

Mara River

Descend the escarpment and ride through the Triangle once more to the renowned wildebeest crossing on the river. Head in a northwest direction, enjoying another picnic lunch before reaching the banks of the Mara River for the final campsite. A highlight of this camp is the nightly grunting sounds of resident hippos.

Day 7

Mara River

Spend a full day camped on the river, following the morning and evening ride routine. Opt to go on a guided walk or drive after breakfast for another chance to capture stunning photographs of the local wildlife. You may also choose to cross the river close to the hippos for an exhilarating highlight.

Day 8

Departure

Embark on your final early morning ride followed by breakfast. Bid farewell to your trusty steeds and drive to the airstrip for your 11 am flight back to Nairobi. Enjoy some shopping in town or relax before your evening flight or your onward journey.

Getting there

Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, or if you’ve arrived earlier, from your Nairobi hotel, you’ll be seamlessly transferred to Wilson Airport for your 10:00 am flight to Naboisho. This scenic flight unfolds above the picturesque Kikuyu Highlands, treating you to breathtaking views before crossing the expansive Great Rift Valley. Traverse the volcanic landscape of the Rift’s floor and glide over the Loita Hills, eventually landing at the Naboisho Airstrip. Here, your knowledgeable guide will warmly welcome you and escort you on a roughly one-hour drive to the camp, offering you a chance to soak in the stunning surroundings along the way.

The accommodation

During your safari adventure, you’ll experience the unique comfort of staying in mobile camps strategically positioned in four distinct locations.

The dedicated team ensures a seamless transition by dismantling the camp each morning as you set off for a new destination and setting it up ahead of your arrival. Your belongings will be efficiently moved from camp to camp along with the team.

Each mobile tent, measuring 9ft x 10ft, provides a cozy haven with camp beds, comfortable mattresses, crisp sheets, and warm blankets. Equipped with essential amenities, including a long drop toilet and invigorating hot safari bucket showers, these tents are designed for your utmost convenience. The sleeper tents encircle a spacious central mess tent, where all your meals are served.

Your comfort is further enhanced with the provision of towels, soap, and torches. Inside each tent, a solar lamp illuminates the space, while hurricane lamps outside create a serene ambiance during the night.

As for dining, you’ll start each day with a wholesome English breakfast. Lunches often take the form of delightful bush picnics, allowing you to dine in the open air when weather permits. Dinner is a culinary experience with three-course meals prepared by skilled chefs. Freshly baked bread is a daily treat, crafted over open fires.

The inclusive beverage selection features house wines, beers, and spirits, excluding Champagne. The team ensures that ice is readily available throughout the safari.
