What to Expect

This program is tailored for proficient and independent riders aged between 18 and 55.

A typical day kicks off at 7 am and concludes when all tasks are accomplished. Throughout your stay, you’ll immerse yourself in the daily rhythm of farm life, experiencing moments of tranquility and intensity depending on the day and season. Your responsibilities span the spectrum, from the maintenance of paddocks, enclosures, stables, and riding trails to the care of equipment and accommodations. Additionally, your expertise will be enlisted in the grooming and training of young horses.

In the vicinity of the stable, a community of approximately 150 to 180 free-roaming wild horses exists. Your contribution may be sought for the care of injured horses or orphaned foals.

By arrangement, occasional days off (typically on weekdays due to weekend busyness) can be taken to explore the surroundings. Kaapsehoop, with its enchanting hiking trails, awaits your discovery. A mere 1.5-hour drive brings you to the Kruger National Park, offering the chance to encounter the renowned Big 5 and an array of diverse wildlife. Moreover, a Panorama Route unveils historical landmarks and breathtaking waterfalls. Wildlife reserves, animal rehabilitation centers, and breeding projects are also within a 1-3 hour drive. Leisure time abounds with opportunities!

Horses

Our horses are skillfully bred hybrids, a mix of Shire Horses and Thoroughbreds, commonly known as Cross-Bred horses. In South Africa, it’s a prevailing practice to blend these robust horses with Thoroughbreds, creating hybrids that embody the best of both breeds and excel as trail horses.

Furthermore, Kaapsehoop Farm takes pride in its modest Arabian breeding program, boasting ownership of one stallion and six mares.

Saddles

Our horses are saddled with either English or trail saddles for an optimal riding experience.
