Embark on an equestrian adventure through the enchanting landscapes of Golden Sands. Picture endless gallops along sandy trails, adobe villages nestled within a cacti labyrinth, and vibrant vegetable plantations shielded by plastic. Traverse green river valleys, encounter Berber women draped in floral attire, and as you approach the rugged Anti-Atlas, witness the growth of argan and almond trees in the rocky terrain. Your journey culminates with the breathtaking sight of the sea, where you’ll gallop freely along the beach, invigorated by the misty sea breeze and the rhythmic speed of your horses.

This is a sample itinerary – subject to change at any time.

Day 1

Arrival

Upon arrival in Agadir, at specified times, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2

In the morning, you will go to the horses, located a bit outside the city. Here, ‘your’ horse will be assigned to you. The morning ride takes you to the Atlantic coast, where lunch will be served. Riding in the afternoon over beautiful sandy paths with long gallops through the fertile Sousse plain. Vegetables are planted under plastic to combat high evaporation. In winter, tomatoes, potatoes, and zucchini from this region are sold throughout Morocco. Wild argan trees grow between the plantations, and sheep graze on the sparse grass. Dinner and overnight at the Auberge in Massa.

Day 3

Another early wake up and this time your tea/coffee and breakfast is served around the log fire pit. Your morning ride takes you through the ancient rock formations in the heart of Mashatu. You can enjoy long canters through old elephant trails and admire the Giant baobab trees as you ride by. This ride brings you to the banks of the Motloutse river, and to your next destination, Kgotla camp, an old tribal court on the banks of the Motloutse River, which is nestled amongst the dense Mashatu trees. The open-air traditional African enclosure offers a perfect spot for spending the night under the stars and a true and unique experience in the African bush. In the afternoon you go out on a guided game drive to search for the area’s resident lions . You then head for sundowners at the “Amphitheatre”, an ancient rock formation. Back at the Kgotla, dinner is served around a large log fire after which the night is spent sleeping under the stars.

Day 4

Leaving the fertile plain, you ride over barren, rocky hills covered with cacti and argan trees. The Berbers here mainly live off argan nuts, from which they produce oil, and their sheep and goats. It’s fascinating to watch the goats climb the argan trees to get their food! The terrain becomes sandier. We cross small sand dunes and gallop through small bushes. In the background, the Anti-Atlas mountain range. We reach the picnic spot. The horses stay here, and we drive to the hotel in Tiznit.

Tiznit was founded in 1882 by Sultan Moulay Al-Hassan I of the Alaouite Dynasty and served as a fortress against warring Berber tribes. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to explore the town. Tiznit is known for its silver craftsmanship, especially filigree work with the finest silver threads forming earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5

In the morning, we return to the horses, crossing gentle hills with sandy soil and encountering many herds of sheep and goats among the small bushes. Long gallops bring us close to the coast. We have a picnic along the way. By evening, we reach the small Auberge. Overnight at the Auberge, with the horses nearby.

Day 6

We cross a small hill and finally see the Atlantic. The fresh wind blows towards us. Small sand dunes alternate with a sandy track. Endless gallops along the Atlantic coast take us north.

We enjoy beautiful views of the vast blue Atlantic. Large flocks of birds cross our path repeatedly. Soon, we reach the mouth of the Massa. Rare birds like the Bald Ibis, found only in Morocco and Turkey, nest here. Finally, we reach the beach. The highlight of the day is the long gallop along the Atlantic waves.

We reach the Auberge near the beach a bit earlier. There’s enough time to possibly swim in the Atlantic or simply take a walk. Overnight at the Auberge.

Day 7

Throughout the morning, you ride along the Atlantic beach. Sometimes you find sandy tracks, sometimes you go over sand dunes or along the beach. Here, you encounter no one; the only sounds are bird cries and the sound of the sea. It’s always fascinating to gallop behind large flocks of birds. In the afternoon, you reach the Souss River, also a large bird reserve. In the evening, thousands of birds, including pink flamingos, gather here to overnight. You continue riding through eucalyptus-covered sand dunes and soon enter a busier area. In the evening, you reach the stable, where you say goodbye to your horse. Drive back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Departure

Individual transfer from the hotel to the airport and return journey.

The accommodation

Accommodations range from simple, culturally immersive hotels, riads, and inns at the outset, midway, and conclusion of the journey.

The staff at these establishments are consistently warm and welcoming. Most rooms naturally enjoy ventilation, and many hotels feature sun-kissed swimming pools for enjoyment! Evening entertainment is not part of the planned itinerary, and it’s advisable to refrain from consuming tap water.

During the adventures, participants will camp in modest tents, each equipped with a designated space for toilets and washing facilities.

Given Morocco’s Islamic culture, there’s a limited presence of alcoholic beverages. Mint tea takes center stage as the national beverage, but larger cities offer options for those seeking alcoholic drinks. At the outset, the group should collectively decide whether to include alcoholic beverages during the ride. If the decision is affirmative, these will be conveniently transported in the vehicle.
