Arrival

Independent arrival in Ouarzazate. A group transfer is included for arrivals by 4:00 PM. For later arrivals, we can arrange a taxi in advance (payable locally). Briefing at approximately 7:00 PM and overnight stay at the hotel.

Drive from Ouarzazate through the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs” to Tinghrir. The horses are already waiting for you in the desert. After a quick lunch, you mount up and the ride begins along the palm grove. Then, the true desert landscape begins: sandy terrain, dry riverbeds, and the first small sand dunes. Towards evening, you reach a small range of hills. Overnight stay at the camp (or at a hotel in Erfoud).

After a hearty breakfast, the ride begins along the dunes towards Algeria. Later, you cross through the dunes to reach the flat terrain on the other side. A few short gallops lead to the evening’s camp by the seasonal lake—though it does not always contain water.
After rainfall, water collects there and attracts many birds, sometimes even flamingos. Camp by the lake (or overnight stay at a hotel in Merzouga).

In the morning, you ride across the black, gently undulating plain. Long stretches of cantering take you to the riverbed. On the other side, the ground suddenly turns snow-white and sandy. In the distance, you can already see the oasis of Rissani, where your hotel for the night is located.
In the afternoon, you travel to Rissani to visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the first king of the Alaouite dynasty. Afterward, there is time to explore the Rissani souks and stop at a café. The bustling life of this desert town is fascinating! Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Today, you ride out through the palm grove and back into the vast plains. Small sand dunes frequently dot the landscape. Long stretches of cantering carry you toward the distant mountains. In the afternoon, you reach an area crisscrossed by underground canals dating back to the early Middle Ages. Overnight stay at a camp (or an inn in Fezna).

You leave the town and soon find yourself back in uninhabited territory—small sand dunes and dry river valleys mark the landscape. In the distance, you see the “Stairway to Heaven” rising up (an artwork by a German artist). A little further on stand the “City of Orion” and the “Golden Spiral.”
Slowly but surely, the ride draws to a close, and you reach the vehicles that will take the group back to Ouarzazate after a quick lunch. It is time to say goodbye to the horses. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Ouarzazate.

Independent return journey after breakfast. Your guide will be happy to assist you in arranging a taxi to the airport (not included in the tour price).
