Arrival

You will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will be met upon arrival. After a short drive (approx. 45 minutes), you will reach Dolly River Camp, your accommodation for the first night. Depending on your arrival time, you may have a little time before dinner to rest or perhaps even take a walk along the river.

Arusha National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Arusha National Park. You will set off on a day-long horseback ride through the park, discovering its most beautiful spots. You have a good chance of spotting giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelopes, and many bird species—and, with a bit of luck, elephants too! Endangered colobus monkeys also inhabit the area.
Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge on the edge of the national park.

Wildlife, Culture, and Scenic Views

Start your morning with a horseback ride to a magical waterfall, where you can enjoy the cool spray. Next, begin the ascent of Mt. Meru beneath the canopy of the dense forest; there will be some rugged sections along the way where you will need to dismount and lead your horse. On the way down, stop at a viewpoint for a light picnic. The horses will be transported by vehicle to the next location.
After lunch, you have the option to visit a cultural organization dedicated to empowering women within the local community’s tourism sector.
Afterwards, enjoy a game drive near an alkaline lake, where you might spot flamingos, zebras, and waterbuck. A canoe tour on the lake can also be arranged as an optional extra (for an additional fee).
In the evening, you will be taken to a lovely lodge.

Vast Plains and Wildlife

What could be better than starting the day with a bush breakfast followed by a horseback ride? Today, the route takes you across the vast plains of Narco, home to numerous zebras and antelopes. This is the starting point of the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area (WMA)—a community-managed conservation zone and a vital habitat corridor linking Amboseli National Park in Kenya, Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Parks, and the Natron area and Serengeti to the west. Lunch is served at the Enduimet WMA visitor center, followed by a guided tour of the facility.
In the afternoon, you ride to the camp, which the backup team has already set up on the Ngasurai Plains. It consists of spacious tents surrounded by horse paddocks and is guarded by local Maasai warriors.

Diverse Landscapes

The ride takes you through a variety of landscapes. The route heads north across plains framed by towering mountains: Kilimanjaro to the east, Meru to the south, Longido to the west, and the “Seven Sisters” to the north. You will pause for lunch near the Seven Sisters before continuing to the camp, which today offers a magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Salt Pans and Elephant Trails

You will spend the next two days in the wilderness, riding across salt pans—ideal for exhilarating gallops—and along Lake Amboseli near the Kenyan border. The region is famous for ancient bull elephants with massive tusks, known as “Supertuskers”—a true hotspot for elephant sightings!
The coexistence of wildlife and the traditional Maasai lifestyle offers visitors insight into sustainable conservation practices and the region’s rich culture. The camp is set up at a convenient location for us each night.

Departure

On the morning of the final day, we head out for a farewell ride, hoping to spot one of the spectacular “Super Tuskers.” After a late breakfast, it is time to bid farewell to the horses and the teams.
Transfer to the airport or your next destination.

Optional (at an additional cost and with advance booking): Join the mounted ranger unit on a patrol ride and learn more about bushcraft, tracking, and ranger activities such as wildlife rescue. Experience the close collaboration between rangers and local Maasai communities.
Accommodation
The final bush camp of the Ranger Experience can either remain in the same location—allowing guests to enjoy the familiar surroundings—or be relocated closer to a ranger post depending on requirements (government fees apply). Staying near a ranger post offers an authentic glimpse into the daily work of wildlife rangers and provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the subject matter, learning about the challenges and successes of frontline wildlife conservation. Whether stationary or at a new location, the bush camp guarantees a comfortable yet immersive wilderness experience.
For private groups, an extension can be arranged for Day 4, featuring a visit to a local school and a Maasai-themed evening that includes spear-throwing, music, dance, and campfire storytelling.
Extension days featuring game-viewing rides are also available.
